Project Description : |
Plans & Goals:
1. Enhance public awareness about our rich but forgotten literature, art & culture
2. Host a suitable program as Lead Club in September’16
Achevement:
Shabdhabrahma, a divine word, a primordial, cosmic reverberation, is a Vedic idea that consecrates and inspires mortal man’s attempts to use the medium of language to make sense of the Creation, of Divinity and of human life. The resulting diversity of literary traditions in India was celebrated by our club, as its rendering of the Service Carnival Project of District 3141. At the Shabdhabramha project held on 10th February 2017 at Juhu Jagruti Hall, Mithibai College, Vileparle [W], Mumbai our club honoured three distinguished writers/artists, as well as provided a platform to Kula Manch, a multi-genre, cultural medley that included plays and self-composed songs and poems, produced by Yatri, a theatre group founded by Shri Om Katare. The innovative idea of this project and the manner of its execution earned accolades for the club from Chief Guest DG Gopal Mandhania, who twice gave a standing ovation!
The awardees of the club’s citation, plaque and stole were: Smt. Anita Padhye, a Marathi film journalist and author of highly researched books on lives of celebrities of Indian cinema as well as on the making of classic Hindi films; Shri Utkarsh Mazumdar, playwright in Gujarati, producer, director and multi-lingual actor, who has also made forays into Hindi cinema; Shri Om Katare, producer and veteran champion of Hindi theatre, whose mission is to encourage new talent and train aspiring artists.
A delightful bonus came from Guest of Honour and Rotary Anne Smt. Kavita Seth, a well-known Sufi, Ghazal and Playback singer, who regaled with her mellifluous voice. The project was co-hosted by thirteen other Rotary Clubs of Mumbai. It was conceived, meticulously planned and executed by President Radha, Club Secretary Parvez and Project Director and master of ceremonies Rtn, Daksha Das, ably supported by other members of the organizing committee: Chaula, Rajesh Purandare, Lata, Alkesh and Meera. The feast for the eyes and ears aptly ended with a gastronomical delight.
