Project Description :
Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach hosted the Vocational Awards for the year 2016-17 on 24th January, 2017. Theme for the Awards this year was felicitating ‘Special Educators’. Life–time Achievement Awards were given to Dr Ramesh Oza and Dr Maya Nanavati. Dr Ramesh Oza is a pioneer in Speech Therapy, Director & Founder of Shruti School for the hearing impaired, Honorary Director, Cochlear Implant Habilitation & Infant Training Center and Honorary Audiologist & Head of Department at Dr.Balabhai Nanavati Hospital. Dr Maya Nanavati is Occupational Therapist, running special classes for challenged children in the schools for normal children through Posat Foundation (Physio – Occupational – Speech Academy of Therapist). A team of teachers from the BMC School for Differently Abled in S. C. West - Ms Bharati Varade, Ms Neha Khatu, Ulka Loke and Pooja Jadav were felicitated. They are dedicated towards making the children with special needs more self sufficient and also develop their life skills, vocational skills, sports & talents so that they can become independent members of society. Teachers Ms Heetal Patel and Ms Pramila Poojary from Cochlear Implant Habilitation and Infant Training Centre at the Shruti School for the hearing impaired were also recognised. A lot of hearing impaired students who have undergone pre and post operative implant therapy under them have graduated from the centre and have since been successfully integrated in regular schools. All the awardees expressed that the smile of gratitude given by the challenged persons and their parents was the best award for them. They were all given a standing Ovation for their continuos and untiring efforts towards nurturing the differently abled.
